“ Don’t you want to see your fingers getting cut off again? ”

If one would choose a word to properly describe this entity, sadistic would be the best fit. He is truly sick in the head, he enjoys pain, enjoys carnage, he likes nothing better than ripping and tearing at another person to get to their gooey center. He thrives off of it, the thrill of pretending that he’s someone else and then deceiving them at the last moment, that he’s actually a ruthless murderer deadest on killing them and taking them for all they’re worth. Does he feel remorse from it? No, of course not, a good serial killer does it because they enjoy it so much. Nothing satisfies him more than going through with a good kill, than being the culprit and coming through the victor in the end. He does it because he likes it, he does it because he has to, that urge never leaves him… he does it because he…. Because he….

Well, what other options does he have? He was created by the witches, created to merely be a pawn on the gameboard. He was manifested by the ideas and thoughts that Battler was the true culprit. Even at his center he has nothing else to live for, nothing else to really fight for- killing and murdering, he does it because it’s what he was meant to do. If he has to take a moment and think about it, would he simply disappear if he wasn’t constantly killing? The reason he exists is to be the culprit, after that’s all said and done…. Then what? What else? He shouldn’t feel such things, but for some reason that loneliness creeps up on him at certain points. Yes, he was the one responsible for their deaths, but even so….. These kinds of thoughts that float through his head were made evident at the end of his story mode in the game. He realized that he killed everyone along with Shannon, and when he turned to talk to her she told him that he had murdered her too. Once he realized it he carried her lifeless body in his arms, talking about what he had done. For some reason though, as he spoke about his so called accomplishments, his voice was strained, pained almost at what he had done. He didn’t feel bad for killing them, but the lonely feeling crept up on him for some reason. Still, he was merely a piece on the gameboard, so he threw his head back and laughed evilly.

“Hey, Beato….. look at me…” “I am.” “Am I, me…..?”

Maybe there is more to him than just being a killer. After his initial creation, he had been talking with Ronove on what he should do next. A few moments later Beato arrived on the scene, and immediately different feelings took over for him. He wanted to please her, he wanted to be the piece that she always wanted. If she wanted him to kill everyone then he would- he had no problem doing it, and in fact he found a sick satisfaction in it all. Perhaps in doing so he would make her proud, he would finally become not only an illusion but something that she could say was a true person. He knows what he is, but he wants to become something more than that- not an illusion but the real culprit, the real Battler on the gameboard. Because of this though, he hates his counterpart, and he knows all too well about the meta world and everything that goes on in it. He’s a piece and the real Battler is the player, he understands that, and hates the man for it. They are nothing alike, they aren’t even the same person, so why must he even share the same name as him?

He is truly insane and sadistic, and combined with all of that he is controlling. He wants the other person to know just who he is, the fact that he is not just a piece, but the Battler Ushiromiya that will kill them. He’ll do anything to get to that point, even going so far as pretending to be the real Battler, it’s quite easy to do really, just act like a complete moron and the rest is history. Even when they think he’s crying tears of sorrow he’ll be shedding tears of absolute joy, there is no greater happiness than what he can expect from the murders on that island. He wants to see others cry, he wants to see their sadness. If he’s surrounded by actual joy… well, that’s something he’s never had to deal with before. Most likely he would be unable to understand it all, unable to comprehend why humans are like this. He hopes to one day become one of them, but that almost seems like a distant dream.

In one point in the game, if he wins against a certain someone he responds with, “ah… you’re a virgin, aren’t you-? I can fix that for you.”

In other words… not only does he feel some twisted satisfaction from killing, he also has a sexual side to him. He’s not afraid to say what would truly upset the other person, even stooping so low as to bring up something like that. It could be that he was just saying things like that in order to freak the other person out entirely, their fear fueling him even more- or it could actually be that he feels a sense of sexual stimulation from such twisted things. The real Battler is quite the pervert, but he’s also a gentleman about it- Black Battler on the other hand has no concept of that, he’ll toss all of that out of his way to get what he truly wants.

Abilities: Not much is known about what he is able to do except for what is put into the fighting game.

His moveset is the same as Battler’s but certain things about it has been manipulated. Instead of using the blue truth, his magic derives entirely from himself, from his own entity. The darkness that erupts from him he is able to control. He’s able to use it to crush his opponent as he holds them, a claw-like figure appearing and slashing at them, even when he punches or kicks the darkness surrounds his limbs and does extra damage. The biggest hitter would be when he gathers up all of his strength and points at the other person- a stream of dark magic flowing out of him and attacking the other person, rendering them useless for a while.

Not only that, but certain attacks he uses he is able to disappear for a moment, indicating that he is much like the other witches. They burst into butterflies and are able to transport somewhere else, Black Battler is merely able to disappear thanks to his own dark magic and reappear somewhere else.

Since he isn’t human though and merely an “illusion” or a manifestation of the Battler culprit theory, he doesn’t get hurt or heal quite like a human. He takes blows like any other, but wounds that he sustains will recover faster than normal over time. In the game when you face him as a final boss, even if you hit him he seems to regain health, meaning you need to continuously beat him down before he’ll falter.
